El Patio is a wee Spanish school in the heart of Edinburgh built around real conversation, native teachers, and small groups of 8-10.
If you're interested in learning Spanish or improving your Spanish in a warm and friendly atmosphere, you've come to the right place. A place where people get together and experience a little piece of Spain.
We teach Spanish in-person on Albany Street or online from anywhere. Evening classes, intensive courses, and everything inbetween.

What is the best way to learn Spanish as a beginner?
There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but we'd argue the key ingredient is actually speaking, not just studying. From your very first class at El Patio, you'll be talking. Our immersion approach means you learn grammar and vocabulary in context, through real conversation with your teacher and classmates. It's a bit nerve-wracking at first. Then it clicks. Most beginners are surprised by how much they can say after just a few weeks.
How long does it take to learn Spanish?
It depends. A complete beginner working through our evening classes can hold a basic conversation within a few months. If you want to move faster, our intensive Spanish courses in Edinburgh are designed for exactly that, serious progress in a short time. Either way, you'll feel the difference from your very first lesson.
Do you offer online Spanish classes as well as in-person?
Yes, you can learn with us from the comfort of your own home, or come and join us in person at our space on Albany Street in Edinburgh. Both options use the same immersive approach and are taught by our native-speaking teachers. Same quality, same small groups, just a different view out the window.
Who are your Spanish classes for?
